Well Valerie, "Common Sense" is a remarkably uncommon sense. You can see examples in the "Darwin Awards" of how people are determined to remove themselves from the gene pool.

Good morning Kevin
There is or was a copy of a report by SMA Engineering for Roads ACT on their website that mkes interesting reading. It includes correspondence between all the parties involved plus engineering reports and photo's regarding…
I still think that despite many people signing in the site it is a great forum but under utilised. Not sure that some of the comments are all that relevent but that's what people are about.
I even tried to be contraversial to see what reaction…
Having read your comments about this Site's underutilization, I agree. When it was started by Mark McCabe there was general agreement that it was a "good thing and much needed" because there is a great body of OHS information on…
I think that with the positive changes that will take place with the amalgamation combined with the continuing leadership provided by Mark that we will see a continuing improvement in OHS across all industry sectors not just the high risk ones.
This…
Hi Richard
Having worked in the construction industry for quite a number of years including several periods with an OHS regulator, and my use of the term the words "belted around the head" possibly you have taken my words out of context. I…
Well this is probably one of the better things to happen to OHS in the ACT but will we actually see inspectors out in the workplace taking a proactive approach to OHS instead of sitting back and waiting for incidents to occur and then going out and…
Good morning Mark
Mmmmm I see what you mean about advertising "creeping" in. I was always of the belief that the forum was to pass around ideas, thoughts and the various issues regarding E&HOS (after all they are all interconnected).…
Re the issue of Australian Standards
You are right Kevin.
In a recent draft of one of the Federal Government OHS laws mention was made of not including references to AS but using National Codes of Practice.
The cost of Australia Standards are…
Good morning Craig
The latest version of the NSW CoP for Electrical practices for Construction Work was released some months before the update on AS3012 and these documents are very similar when you compare the 2 documents. NSW were also on the…
Hi Mark
My apologies for not providing some earlier comment on the Crane issues you mentioned.
There are a number of Australian Standards covering the safe use of cranes. Queensland has a good Code of Practice on Cranes although I'm not sure…
Hi Peter
Great to hear that someone is asking the Question.
I would doubt that the new system will streamline the paper trail, you know it's not in the nature of bureaucracy to reduce the paper trail, just look at the "paper war" in…

G'Day Brian
I guess one could say same old ... ha ha. I'm still doing High-Risk Work Licence assessments and associated training also national fork lift championships judging. Have been doing quite a bit of work up in Sydney regarding heavy vehicle driver fatigue management and am looking forward to rolling out the new white card. Bit of safety auditing as well is keeping me busy and my days interesting.
