Unsafe Households Impact on Worker Productivity

Hi everyone. With the new year well underway and the kids back at school, I wonder if productivity in the workplace is increasing or decreasing. If we go home stressed or contaminated with by-products of our job, what impact does that have upon our family members?Workplace health and safety generally focusses on workplaces, and as a result we tend to overlook the home. How many lost time injuries or illnesses are attributed to accidents or illness in the home?  If the kids get sick or are injured,…See More

Peter Blayney replied to Kevin Jones's discussion 'Clarification on trench incident'
Good point Kevin.   My take on it, or the context I assume the comment was made, is that certain things occurred that made the incident inevitable.  Unfortunately, like all incidents, once that first domino falls, there is nothing that can…

Geda 500z Unfortunately Bunja that is a common sight. We need to be vigilant when we see these issues - it doesn't take much to drop some concrete down to make a safe access and egress ramp. More people should have class HM quals and this…

Vitamin D deficiency vs Sunsmart

Notwithstanding, the fantastic work done by the cancer council and the looming high UV days of Summer.  I wonder if, in the Winter months, we can be over cautious when it comes to effects of UV exposure?  Recently, a person I know was feeling unwell and went to the doctor to find he was suffering vitamin D deficiency.  I was a bit amazed by this and yet not surprised all at the same time. He works outdoors all the time and sensibly covers up and wears sunscreen.  The problem for him was that…See More

Peter Blayney replied to Roger Grime's discussion 'Workplace safety groups gain staff under merger'
I say anything and any funding that can assist these people with their work is good news - "the real reason for working safely isn't at work at all" but unfortunately this is generally overlooked and too many people are exposed to…

Brian MacLeod replied to Peter Blayney's discussion 'Will the new High-Risk Work Licence end the Paper War?'
Hi Peter Great to hear that someone is asking the Question. I would doubt that the new system will streamline the paper trail, you know it's not in the nature of bureaucracy to reduce the paper trail, just look at the "paper war" in…

Ah, it's a little bit quiet at the moment, altho I'm in the process of
ACTising the Qld Code of Practice for Mobile Cranes and Tower Cranes and that's causing some headaches. I had carried out some work for an earthmoving company until I had a car accident last Easter which stuffed up a lot of things but them's the breaks.
